Competition Cycle: Summer

Season: September – March

Description: Special Olympics Gymnastics helps gymnasts develop strength, flexibility and artistry. Competitions are offered for women in rhythmic events. Gymnasts may compete in all events offered (All Around) or may be specialists, competing in one, two, or more (but not all) events.   As in all Special Olympics sports, athletes are grouped in competition divisions according to ability level and age.

Coach’s Comments: We use four sets of equipment: ribbon, rope, ball and hoop. Routines are set to music. We work on balance, body extensions and dance. The athletes are expected to learn the routines to perform on their own.
