Rebecca Westmoreland

Years involved with Special Olympics: I have been involved with Special Olympics for 19 years.

Sport(s) you coach: I have been the Provincial Coach for 5 Pin Bowling for 14 years and was head coach for the North Shore. I also have coached Athletics in the past.

How you became involved: We had moved to North Vancouver and found out about Special Olympics through Jeffrey’s school. I took him up to the 5 Pin Bowling Alley on 16th and Lonsdale to try it out and before I knew it I was asked to coach because the 5 pin coach was moving away. So of course I said yes and the rest is history.

What do I like about coaching Special O athletes: I love the enthusiasm that the athletes have. It is so exciting when someone learns a new skill and how proud they are of their accomplishments.

Best accomplishments: I have participated in 5 Provincial Games, 4 as Provincial Coach for 5 Pin Bowling and I have been to 4 National Games, 3 as Head Coach for 5 Pin Bowling. I am also going to London Ontario for the National Games in July as Head Coach for 5 Pin Bowling.

I also have travelled around BC and taught Special Olympic Coaches bowling techniques and conducted workshops for coaches and athletes.
