YEARS INVOLVED WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS:
I have been involved with Special Olympics for 2 years.
WHAT IS YOUR VOLUNTEER POSITION:
I am currently sharing the role of Program Coordinator with my sister, Chelsea. I also volunteer for 5pin bowling and swimming.
HOW DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED:
I became involved with Special Olympics because of my brother, who is an athlete. My sisters started volunteering a few years before I did and they would always tell me how great it was, to the point where I decided I wanted to join as well.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING:
The athletes are awesome. It is really nice to get to see them and spend time with them every week. I really enjoy feeling like I am a part of something, and that at the end of the day, I made a difference in someones life. Being involved with SOBC North Shore has turned out to be something I plan on being a permanent part of my life.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OR EVENT AS A VOLUNTEER:
My most memorable event as a volunteer was being able to attend the Provincial Games this past summer with some of the athletes from 5 Pin Bowling. It was a lot of fun meeting athletes and coaches from all over B.C., and being able to watch different events. It was also inspiring to see different communities coming together to achieve something so significant.
