YEARS INVOLVED WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS: 6 years

WHAT IS YOUR VOLUNTEER POSITION: Program Coordinator

HOW YOU BECAME INVOLVED: Our son, Mark became a participant with Special O when Youth Sports first began on the North Shore. When he got a little older he moved on to Floor Hockey and I became the Manager of the team.

WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING:  I love the positive energy surrounding the athletes when they are involved in their sport. It’s contagious! Their smiles, honesty and fun-loving personalities are hard to resist! It’s a privilege working on the Executive to organize activities and help make things run smoothly for the athletes. I’ve met many new friends who inspire me with their incredible desire to help others and make things better. The Special O athletes are always so appreciative and it makes all our efforts worthwhile.

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OR EVENT AS A VOLUNTEER:  Attending a World Junior Hockey game between Canada and Finland at GM Place in “Nassy’s” Suite with the athletes from the Floor Hockey C Team. The athletes cheered on Canada with incredible enthusiasm  and “danced in their seats” to the music in between plays – a good time was had by all!
