YEARS INVOLVED WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS: 13 years
WHAT IS YOUR VOLUNTEER POSITION: 5 Pin Bowling Scorekeeper and Volunteer Fitness Instructor.
HOW YOU BECAME INVOLVED: My son, who has Down Syndrome, has always been involved with Special Olympics programs, and I help out as I can. His father and I helped start the Special Olympics program on the North Shore.
WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING: The athletes! I love their positive attitude, the care and support they show for each other, and their enjoyment of life. They are also very tolerant of my slow arithmetic skills and are willing to wait patiently while I calculate the score when someone gets two strikes and a spare, all in a row.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OR EVENT AS A VOLUNTEER: No one particular moment. They are all good memories.
