YEARS INVOLVED WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS: 3 years

WHAT IS YOUR VOLUNTEER POSITION: Manager for Swimming and Sport Start Swimming, volunteer with Golf and Program Coordinator with the Executive (phew!)

HOW DID YOU BECOME INVOLVED: I’m originally from Calgary and had considered joining there, but never seemed able to find the time, when I relocated to North Vancouver 3 ½ years ago, I decided to sign up here to a) be involved with an organization that truly understands sportsmanship and having fun with sports and b) to meet some new people.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING: Being greeted on a cold Saturday morning at 7:30 by great big smiling faces, getting high-fived with every accomplishment big or small, the opportunities I’ve had to learn new things and the friendships I make every time I walk into an event.

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT OR EVENT AS A VOLUNTEER: There have been so many!!  From the first time one of our swim athletes made it from one end of the pool to the other unassisted and non-stop, to the swim meet I attended where our coaches outnumbered the athletes because we were all so excited to be there and cheer them on!  The laughter and fun I’ve shared with athletes on the golf course and of course, the squeals of delight of my favourite “troublemaker” athlete when he gets the chance to hit the waterslide (you know who you are!)!
