SOBC – North Shore was pleased to host the Region 5 10 pin qualifier on March 30, 2012 at the wonderful Rev’s Bowling facility in Burnaby. 36 Athletes from Vancouver and 12 from North Shore competed in 12 teams of 4. As individuals, everyone was slotted into 10 divisions. It was a great time. Many athletes were happy to meet with friends from the other local.
It was an extremely close competition. The North Shore team of Robert Brown, Shannon Wotton, Kelson Roberts, and Peter Russell placed 3rd with 100 points above average. Another North Shore team – Kendra Janes, Shannon McCartney, Gary Jones, and Dini Antonio – placed 2nd with 106 points above average. Top honours by just one more pin went to the Vancouver team of Joyce Groenevelt, Edward Ng, Ken McLean, and Neillie-Joe Kurta.
Top Male was Gary Jones of North Shore, scoring 77 points above his average. Top Female, scoring 120 points above average, was Annebelle Davis of Vancouver. Gary Jones also had the high game with 216. Kelson Roberts, Gary Jones, and Dini Antonio scored Turkeys (3 strikes in a row). Joyce Groenevelt scored a 4th strike in a row with her Turkey.
The event was hosted by North Shore Head Coach Nancy Antonio and assistant coach Victor Tilton. Mags Roberts was Judge and did the divisioning. Brian Moore did the scoring. Tracee Mariott, Pat McCartney, and Nancy prepared food. Kelly Klein organized trophies, ribbons, and finances. Victor did photography and wrote this article. Thank you to the many volunteers from North Shore and Vancouver that made this event such a success.
